FreeNAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness) Southeast Wisconsin provides free support groups, classes, community education, youth mental health outreach, crisis intervention training, suicide prevention training and more for Milwaukee, Waukesha and Jefferson Counties. Read below about the NAMIWalks 2023 event.
The annual NAMIWalks mental health awareness event is on October 7 at the Milwaukee County Zoo. This annual fundraiser usually hosts 800 participants and seeks to unify community members, friends, families, businesses and non-profits. They bring awareness to the importance of mental health and end the stigma by showing up publicly for those they love and those they may have lost. And, it’s really fun!
October 7th is also family free day at the zoo so they have a unique opportunity to reach more folks than ever before with their mental health awareness. All donations raised through this event stay in our community and fund the free resources and programs.
Governor Evers declared 2023 as the Year of Mental Health in Wisconsin. NAMI wants to reach, support, and celebrate as many people in our communities as possible and let them know that no one is alone in their experience with a mental health condition. A healthy and vibrant community depends on the physical AND mental health of its members- and we all have a role to play in this community of care…
NAMI would love to have new participants, teams, volunteers, sponsors etc. to help amplify this message of hope and end the stigma around mental illness. They would be honored to have you walk alongside them!
