A New Business Opening in Downtown Okauchee
Smoke on the Water
Bayside on Okauchee, Bucky’s…the restaurant across the street from the Okauchee post office goes through a lot of name changes and ownership. It’s now, Smoke on the Water. The new owners, Ellen and Joe Hennes also own and operate another restaurant called Sloppy Joe’s, located in Hubertus, WI.
Smoke on the Water will feature a BBQ themed menu. If you are familiar with Sloppy Joe’s, (I am not, but am intrigued to visit), much of the menu at Smoke on the Water will be the same. The BBQ themed menu will include favorites like smoked brisket and BBQ ribs.
While the restaurant is open right now to the public, they are planning on hosting a grand opening event later in spring 2021, likely in April. Currently, guests can dine in their outdoor igloos. The heated igloos seat up to 6, and unless reserved, are first-come-first-served.
From their Facebook Page, “Where strangers become friends and friends become family.”

Other Newer Businesses in Downtown Okauchee
Lake Life Shop
I love to shop local, and Lake Life Shop is the perfect location to do so! Next time you are in downtown Okauchee, checking the mail or picking up a yummy treat from Baker Meister, pop into Lake Life Shop and check out their selection.
The owners are new to the area, moving from the greater Madison area to Okauchee. They fell in love with the area, and their shop shows it. They offer lake apparel and home decor as well as other boutique fashion and gifts. You can find local jewelers showcased in there as well.
We moved to Okauchee from Middleton in June of this year (2020) and spent the summer exploring Lake Country. We fell in love with the area and decided to open a Lake Life shop to offer people apparel and décor which captures the feel of lake living.
We offer stylish apparel, funny t-shirts, caps, knit hats, bags, home décor, mugs, glasses, candles, blankets, and much more. We even designed the store fixtures to look like piers, a boathouse and a cozy cabin complete with a deer head hanging over the fireplace.
Tie Up Bar & Grill
If you take a walk or drive down Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Okauchee, you’ll notice that the old BBQ joint, Between the Lakes, is now going to be Tie Up Bar & Grill. And it’s opening the same weekend as the annual Okauchee Lake Tie Up event – July 25. Look for a menu featuring burgers, sandwiches and seafood options.
The owners are also keeping Sweet Dreams in Hartland open, having just purchased that restaurant in summer 2020.
They are having their BIG Opening Day on Saturday, July 25.

No longer new, but we still love to feature the German Bakery, Baker Meister. This is located on the roundabout in downtown Okauchee in the old Pauline’s.
