Mountain Top Coffee Downtown Waukesha

Lake Country Family Fun Coffee Shops: Mountain Top Coffee

Did you know that at Mountain Top Coffee, they believe that bakery should be made fresh daily and from scratch? It’s true! Every morning their ovens are fired up and they make an array of muffins, breads, cakes, cookies, and many other creations. In addition to supplying their own shop, they also supply to local restaurants, coffee shops, do special orders, and can cater events as well. That’s like all my favorites in one!

You can place a special bakery order  by emailing the shop at mountaintopcoffee@gmail.com.

Happy eating local!

After visiting the Waukesha County Parks and Waukesha County libraries, I decided to visit the sponsors of the Lake Country Family Fun Coffee Shop Guide.

One of the reasons I enjoy doing these tours is because I get to explore new places. Not only is Mountain Top Coffee is a new to me coffee shop, but it’s a relatively new coffee shop that opened in July 2019. It’s in downtown Waukesha and just a block away from the Waukesha Public Library. It’s in the location of the previous Roots Coffeebar and Cafe location. You can read the backstory here.

After parking on the street, I spied benches and chairs. Could it be part of the coffee shop? Upon entering, the barista greeted and welcomed me. After marveling at the front window which has a few tables in it, which means you can step up and sit in the front window, I got my bearings with the menu and pastry case.

After waffling between the pumpkin chocolate chip muffin and the pumpkin cheesecake muffin, I decided on the pumpkin chocolate chip muffin and a latte.

While waiting for my muffin, I noticed a few people coming out of a room to the left of the counter. I peeked and found another room, which includes the entrance to the outdoor seating and a fireplace.

No one was sitting by the fireplace, so I parked myself there with my muffin and the barista brought out my latte. I get bummed when a coffee shop has great coffee and ho-hum pastries or great pastries and ho-hum coffee. But Mountain Top Coffee did not disappoint – both the drink and muffin were excellent. The kitchen was busy bringing forth soup and sandwich orders to guests, and everything looked amazing.

The backroom is available for rent. The sign at the counter said that they have Bingo, and the barista said they also have open mic night. If you’re looking for something to do after work, date night, or girls’ night out, then check their calendar to see what fun activities they have scheduled.

The room with the fireplace has a variety of games and books. (Guess Who? and Apples to Apples are my favorites of the ones I saw.) It’s through this room that guests can enter the outdoor seating area.

I didn’t see any high chairs, but the women’s restroom has a baby changing station in it. The men’s restroom did not.

Thanks to the Lake Country Family Fun Coffee Guide, I’ve found another coffee shop gem. Three down, four to go!
