We started taking our boys to Tosa Block Party about three years ago, and we’re still blown away by what they come up with at this unique LEGO playspace in Wauwatosa.
My favorite part is seeing our kids develop early programming and problem-solving skills through the STEAM Academy classes. What starts as a pile of colorful bricks turns into something motorized, coded, and full of life.
If you haven’t checked it out yet, here are 8 ways your family can play, learn, and build together at Tosa Block Party.
1. Open Play
Drop in to build for 90 minutes and you’ll be amazed at what your kids come up with when they have open access to virtually every LEGO or DUPLO piece imaginable.
The room buzzes with ideas as kids build side by side, inventing on the fly. We have accumulated thousands of LEGO bricks at home, but there’s something about being surrounded by endless bins of pieces, creative energy, and other young builders that pushes kids’ imaginations into overdrive.
You can book a spot online for just $10 per child.
2. STEAM Academy
Tosa Block Party’s education-focused sessions blend creativity, technology, and engineering through hands-on LEGO builds.
In just 75 minutes, kids go from concept to creation, learning how physics and coding work in real life. It’s hands-on learning disguised as play.
Classes are $15 per student and should be booked ahead online.
We’ve seen our kids’ confidence soar after engineering a (high speed) merry-go-round or animated mini golf course.
3. Parents’ Night Out
Now here’s one of our favorites:
Drop off kids (ages 7+) for 2.5 hours of LEGO play, pizza, and friends while you grab dinner at one of Wauwatosa’s many amazing local spots.
For $25 per child, you can enjoy a well-deserved night out while your kids build, create, and connect.
4. Birthday Parties
Host your little builder’s next birthday at Tosa Block Party and customize every detail — from themes to activities. We enjoyed the instructor-led mini-build, which doubled as both a party activity and take-home favor.
Party costs start at just $150!
5. Summer Camps
Five-day summer camps at Tosa Block Party are ultra-engaging for kids who are passionate about one of the many themes offered — whether that’s Marvel, Star Wars, Minecraft, Disney Friends, Nintendo, or more.
Kids get to build the mega LEGO sets of their dreams alongside like-minded friends. The coding component introduces kids to the basics of programming, problem-solving, and innovation. My son added flight to the ender dragon he built!
You can choose half or full-day options to fit your schedule.
Be sure to follow Tosa Block Party on Facebook to see next summer’s lineup when it drops!
6. Pop-Up Events
It pays to follow on social media to find out about these unique pop-up opportunities.
We’ve joined Tosa Block Party at their Beer and Bricks event at a nearby Brewery and at Family Night at Hoyt Park for some fresh air, food, and LEGO fun.
7. No-School Mini Camps
Tosa Block Party keeps the creativity going with mini camps throughout the winter. These ad hoc sessions give kids a productive, social outlet even on cold, no-school days (like MLK day).
8. Minecraft or Fortnite Events
For the gaming enthusiasts, special Fortnite and Minecraft events combine creative LEGO play with interactive Nintendo Switch fun.
These are typically drop off events, so you can run some errands or head to a quiet dinner while the kids play.
Benefits of LEGO Play
As kids experiment, they’re learning to solve problems, test ideas, and adjust their designs, while practicing teamwork and communication. It’s incredibly rewarding as a parent to watch this in action and to see them feel so at home in a setting with new kids.
We’ve also noticed a lot of growth in our kids’ confidence that they can bring their ideas to life with enough persistence.
A Community Partner
Tosa Block Party’s owner, Scott, has built a hub that brings the community together.
One of the first things that stood out to our family is that he’s as passionate about community as he is about creativity.
Scott is quick to partner with other local businesses for special events and fundraisers that support schools, nonprofits, and neighborhood initiatives.
