Pauline Haass Library Storytime

If you live in or near Sussex and are interested in taking your child to the Pauline Haass Public Library storytimes this fall 2018, please know that some events require registration and some do not. They are noted below. They offer several different storytime options for young children and their caregivers all fall long! Whether you are a library regular or just popping in every now and again, visiting the library or learning and laughing at one of the events, there is something for everyone.

Fall 2018 Youth Services Programs

Family Storytime: Tuesday through Friday, September 4-November 21, 10:00 am.
Half-hour traditional storytime designed for ages 0-4. Enjoy stories, fingerplays, songs, movement and puppetry. Stay an additional 45 minutes for quiet together-time play in our early literacy play areas following each storytime.
No registration. Just drop in!

LEGO Club: First Wednesday of each month, September 5, October 3, & November 7, 6:30-7:30 pm.
Imagine, design and build with the library’s LEGO bricks! Your creations will be on exhibit at the library. Ages 4 & up. Younger siblings are invited to play with DUPLOs under adult supervision.
No registration. Just drop in!

Nightlight Storytime: First Monday of each month, September 10 (closed September 3 for Labor Day), October 1, November 5, December 3, 6:00 pm.
The weekday morning storytime designed for ages 0-4 is offered in the evening on the first Monday of each month. Pajamas and favorite cuddle toys welcome.
No registration. Just drop in!

Touch a Truck with the Library Monday, September 10, 4:00-6:00 pm
Attend the Village of Sussex’s Touch a Truck event in the Civic Center parking lot and stop by the library’s toy truck play area, book basket prize drawing, and cardboard truck-building station. Drive your cardboard truck to Nightlight Storytime afterward (6:00 pm) for some quieting-down stories, a short movie, and popcorn.
All ages.
No registration. Just drop in!

Stuffed Animal Sleepover with Pajama Storytime: Thursday, September 20, 6:00 pm.
Evening storytime featuring bedtime stories and quieting-down activities – wear PJ’s if you wish! Bring a favorite cuddle toy that is invited to stay and sleep over at the library. Pick up your stuffed animal the following day.
All ages.
Registration required. Visit the Children’s Services desk to register.

Forts & Flashlights: Friday, September 28, 5:30-7:30 pm (After Hours)
BYO flashlight! Also bring blankets, sheets, and pillows to the library to build a reading fort as part of our Great American Read-a-Thon. Other library services, including computers and check-out, will not be available during this after hours reading event.
All ages; kids under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
No registration. Just drop in!

Pumpkin Pageant: month of October.
Bring a book theme-decorated pumpkin to the children’s department October 1 through October 31 for exhibit and people’s choice vote.
Register your pumpkin at the Children’s Services desk.

Celebrate Curiosity! Wisconsin Science Festival Days at PHPL
Thursday October 11, 5:30-7:30pm
Saturday October 13, 10:00am-noon
Sunday October 14, 1:30-3:30pm
Drop by our KidsLab to imagine, explore, and create. Teen volunteers will be on hand for demonstration and assistance with animation, coding, designing mazes and marble runs, and mad scientist projects. Come by at your convenience during these time slots. Grades 3 & up; younger kids admitted if accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
Our library is one of many partners in the statewide coalition to present the Wisconsin Science Festival.

Trick or Treat at the Library October 31, 5:00-7:00 pm
Spend Halloween at the Library! Visit us in your costume and receive a treat and a special take home craft.
No registration. Just drop in!

Cookie Club: November 26 – January 20, 2019
Join our Winter Cookie Club and collect punches on your Cookie Club card for checking out materials
from the library. Collect six punches by January 20 to be entered into a drawing for a prize basket.
Ages 2 & up.
Visit the Children’s Services desk to join.

Plus – Don’t miss out on their two-week campaign called Show Us Your Library Card. From September 17-30, 2018 anyone who shows their library card at participating Sussex businesses will receive a special deal or discount. Receive a grand prize entry ticket from the business each time you shop or dine. Return your entry tickets to the library by October 4 to enter for a chance to win an iPad or one of four $100 gift certificates to the participating business of your choice!
