Wild Winter Nights Candlelight Hike

Make the most of winter in the parks!
Explore the winding trails and quiet woods of the Waukesha County Parks by candlelight on a self-guided hike. Join us for one or more fun nights in February with your friends and family!
The self-guided hikes are .5 – 1 mile in length. Trails are mostly paved and will be cleared of snow as conditions allow. Please note that some areas may have snow packed down. Be sure to dress for weather conditions. If severe weather is forecasted, the website will be updated and registered participants will be notified by email if canceled.

Parks annual membership or Parks daily permit required for each vehicle • Walk-ins only – No event registration
• Self-guided hike around the lake by candlelight from 6 – 8:30 pm
• The Gift of Wings Grill will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, coffee, hot cocoa, and snacks
• Campfire on the beach
• Well-behaved dogs on a 6 ft. leash are welcome
• Recommended: Purchase your Parks annual membership or Parks daily permit in advance (here)

Free for ages 2 or younger, Friends of Retzer Nature Center members, and Friends of the Horwitz-DeRemer Planetarium members

• Warm beverages and sweet treats in the Community Room by Mama D’s Coffee
• Snowshoes: free rentals! (conditions dependent)
• Campfire on the back patio
• Kids activities in the Community Room
• “Owls of Wisconsin” learning session with Owl hike by Ben Goss Bird Club (ages 10+ • weather dependent)
• Fun family night activities
• *Planetarium show “It’s About Time! Cosmic Cycles We Live By” at 6:30 • 7:00 • 7:30 • 8:00 pm
*Free tickets required first-come, first-served • pick up yours in the Lobby at check-in
