About Betty Brinn:

The Museum is named in honor of Betty Brinn, a successful Milwaukee businesswoman who spent most of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages throughout Wisconsin. As an adult, Betty dedicated her life to helping underprivileged women and children in the Milwaukee area secure health care. Her kindness affected many individuals, and her generosity and love of children continues to impact the city of Milwaukee. Betty passed away in 1992, but her legacy lives on through the thousands of children who learn and play in the Museum each year. If you would like to learn more about the life of Betty Brinn, read “On Her Own: The Story of Betty Brinn” by author Priscilla Pardini and illustrator Joanne Scholler Bowring, which is available in many libraries throughout Wisconsin.

Special Exhibit
Home Sweet Home! This exhibit encourages children and families to be active explorers and thoughtful stewards of the land. Home Sweet Home’s immersive environments include a pretend woodland, urban and stream settings with activities that underscore the importance of protecting ecosystems and highlight ways to reduce, reuse and recycle resources.
My MKE
Led by our Playlab initiative, we are inviting the community to contribute to a new project called My MKE. Museum staff have created a large-scale floor map of the greater Milwaukee area in our exhibit space. Families are invited to decorate small cardboard boxes and add their homes to our miniature city. We hope this project will grow conversations about neighborhoods and the connections we have to each other.
