“We are proud of the long-standing history and tradition of the Waukesha Civic Band,” said special event coordinator Joanna Adamicki. “We have an amazing group of musicians bringing music to life from lively show tunes to grand marches to proud patriotic tunes, all to the delight of band patrons.”
The Waukesha Civic Band began in 1944 when the Musician’s Local 193 met to discuss the idea of starting a Civic Band. Since its inception, the band has had only four conductors: Fred Sperl who started the band, Jay Whitney who led the band from 1967 through 1979, Randy Hopf from 1980 to 2019, and now Michael Poytinger who currently conducts the band. A unique feature of the band is involvement with local music students who play in the band alongside the professional band members.
