46th ANNUAL SAMSON STOMP & ROMP

Samson Stomp & Romp (46th Annual)
A beloved winter tradition returns with a new route! The Milwaukee County Zoo hosts the 46th annual Samson Stomp & Romp on Sunday, January 18, 2026, presented by Prairie Farms Dairy.
Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate in this popular event honoring Samson the silverback gorilla (1950–1981), one of the Zoo’s most famous residents. Participants can choose from three timed courses: a 5K, 2-mile, or 1-mile route, winding through the Zoo and past favorite animal habitats. All proceeds support the care of animals throughout the Zoo.
Registration includes a commemorative T-shirt and Zoo admission for the day.
Cost:
• 5K or 2-mile: $35 per runner
• Teams: $30 per runner
• Kids’ 1-mile: $20 per runner
The event is held rain, shine, cold or snow, however the Zoo reserves the right to cancel due to severe weather or dangerous, unforeseen race conditions. No refunds will be given.
The 5K race is officially timed. All three runs take place on the public walkways throughout the Zoo. For safety, no strollers, in-line skates or similar devices are permitted.
During the event, help take part in our mission of conservation by donating your old cell phones to the Zoo for recycling. The drop-off area is in the Zoo’s U.S. Bank Gathering Place.
Recycling cell phones reduces the need for mining additional Coltan, a mineral extracted from the forests of Congo, which has led to a dramatic reduction of the gorillas’ natural habitat.
