WHAT: Join Wehr Nature Center this March for its 47th Annual Maple Sugar Days to hear the surprising stories behind your favorite sticky treat!
This beloved event invites the community to explore the rich history and enduring traditions of maple sugaring, a treasured part of our Wisconsin heritage. Explore more with your kids in Milwaukee!

It’s our favorite season, where everyone, can tap into the sweet tradition of maple sugaring. It’s the perfect way to shake off winter and welcome spring with open arms and sweet treats.”
WEHR Center Maple Sugar Days Highlights:
- Indigenous Traditions: Learn about the origins of maple sugar by the Indigenous peoples of North America and their ongoing sacred practices.
- Meet Our Maple Trees: Discover the fascinating science behind the sap’s journey from tree to treat.
- Historic Sugar Camp: Experience the past with stories from an old-fashioned sugar camp, where Wisconsin’s early settlers and children made syrup.
- Live Demonstrations: Watch sap turn into syrup with live boiling demonstrations and learn how to make your own syrup at home.
- Hands-On Fun: Try drilling a log, tapping a spile, and tasting the sweet results of your labor.
- Maple Tasting: Enjoy a pancake with Wisconsin syrup and sample a variety of maple flavors ($7/flight, additional fee applies).
- Conservation Education: Learn about the impact of climate change on maple sugaring and how you can help preserve this tradition.
- Nature Store: Visit our store for DIY sugaring equipment, books, and delightful maple treats.
WEHR Center Maple Sugar Days Ticket Information:
- $12 per person for non-members.
- $10 per person for Friends of Wehr members.
- Free admission for children aged 2 and under.
- A $5 parking fee for non-members.
