Scuppernong Trail Hike

December 12, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm

$7 – $9
Waukesha County Park Tour Fox Brook Park Lake Country Family Fun

Join in for the 1st Annual Badger Trails Scuppernong Trail COVID-19 Friendly Hike! Hike Now through December 31st, 2020.

Getting outdoors and hiking is one of the few activities that Wisconsin residents can continue to do safely during the COVID-19 outbreak and safer at home order. Due to recent world events and following social distancing guidelines, Badger Trails has changed the hike in 2020 to a self-guided hike on the day of your choice for the rest of the year. This will limit the number of people using the hiking trails at one time. The first 350 registered hikers will be mailed the limited edition 2020 Scuppernong Hike patch and a trail map to commemorate this time in history. The $7 hike fee includes the limited edition commemorative patch (see the event discussion) and a tax deductible donation to Badger Trails to help them cover the costs they incurred to plan this event (printing, postage, insurance, advertising and the event patches). They thank you for your support and they hope you enjoy your hike!

The Scuppernong Trail system is located in the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest on County Highway ZZ just east of Highway 67 north of the Village of Eagle. You can choose your own adventure on this hike based on the abilities of your hiking group. There are three clearly marked color-coded loop trails ranging from 2 to 5 miles. You are welcome to come and hike one or all of the trails during this event. The Scuppernong area provides convenient parking, water and a vault toilet. The trails have a nice rolling characteristic through hardwood forest and pine plantations. The first 350 hikers that register for this event will receive a limited edition commemorative patch. Please see the event discussion to see the patch.

A state park vehicle sticker is required and is not included in the event registration fee. Park stickers can be obtained at the Scuppernong Trailhead or the Southern Kettle Moraine Ranger Station. The vehicle sticker fees may be waived during the COVID-19 restrictions and for this year’s 50th Earth Day Celebration. Please check the WI DNR website for more information. https://dnr.wi.gov/

Red Loop, intermediate, 2.3 miles: Short and narrow with steep terrain is the only way to describe this loop. You’ll pass through pine plantations and hardwood forest.

Orange Loop, intermediate, 4.1 miles: This loop will take you deeper into the hardwood forest.

Green Loop, advanced, 4.9 miles: About halfway on this loop you will pass the edge of the Pinewoods Campground. As you continue through the pines, walk quietly down these old fire lands. When making your final descent from the ridge to the parking lot, you will experience a roller coaster of hills that you won’t soon forget.

Observation Loop, .5 miles: Enjoy a seat on this overlook with views of Ottawa Lake and the surrounding area.

Registration $7.00
