Take your family to the Lake on February 8th for the Sixth Annual Frozen Assets Winter Festival at The Edgewater on Lake Mendota in Madison.

Supporting Clean Lakes Alliance, this full-day family festival on ice features kite flying, pond hockey, sleigh rides, ice skating, 5K Run/Walk on Ice and much more.

A full day of frozen delights from sleigh rides to a 5K on ice to pond hockey and ice science labs will highlight the sixth annual Frozen Assets Festival, organized by Clean Lakes Alliance. The day-long festival features a winter wonderland of activities using beautiful Lake Mendota as its front yard.

The family-friendly festival is free and open to the public, held indoors and outdoors at The Edgewater, Madison’s lakefront urban resort, Saturday, February 8th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A highlight of the event is the Frozen Assets 5K, held on the ice on Saturday, February 8 at 10 a.m. Participants can run, walk or snow shoe on the 5K loop which begins and ends in front of The Edgewater. Register in advance or the day of the event at The Edgewater. The $40 fee ($45 day of event) will support Clean Lakes Alliance and the top three women and men will receive an award.

Other “on ice” activities include kite flying with the Wisconsin Kiters Club who will present their “Kites on Mendota” show kites; visiting the tented ice science lab staffed by the UW limnology department; enjoying a Lake Mendota sleigh ride; taking a slap shot at a Madison Capitol inflatable; indulging in pond hockey with your boots on; watching a curling demonstration and roasting s’mores on the ice.
At The Edgewater’s Grand Plaza Ice Rink, a speed skating demonstration with Olympic Gold Medalist Casey FitzRandolph will take place late morning and at 1 p.m. the Figure Skating Club of Madison performs. Guests can also enjoy free ice rink access (skate rental is available for $3).
Inside The Edgewater, performances include: Central Midwest Ballet performance at 10:30 am and 2:30 p.m.; the Breakthrough Dance Company at 2 p.m. followed by the Trinity Irish Dancers. Face painting with Funny Faces Family Entertainment is also available.
Bucky Badger will make an appearance between noon and 1 pm and hot coco will be served free throughout the day both inside and outside.

This is the sixth year The Edgewater is the venue host for Frozen Assets, a marquee event for Madison, an event developed by Clean Lakes Alliance in conjunction with its partners and its presenting sponsor Land’s End and The Edgewater, a platinum hosting sponsor. Special thanks to Keva Sports Center and Rutabaga Paddlesports for providing equipment and staffing. Estimated to draw more than 6,000 attendees, the day’s activities and profits support the non-profit which has raised more than $1.5 M to support Madison’s lakes.
