A Community Institution, Anchored in Accessible Education
Founded in 1956 and rooted in Pewaukee, PLSS has grown into one of Wisconsin’s premier youth sailing programs. The school offers a full spectrum of on-the-water instruction for all ages and experience levels, from Kinderprams, an introductory Friday morning class for children ages 5 and 6 — all the way through competitive Club 420 racing for teens aged 12–18. The school’s summer programming delivered 13 classes last season, supported by 21 instructors and a full-time sailing director, reaching more than 150 young sailors from across the region.
PLSS is also home to the Milwaukee Youth Sailing Team (MYST), currently the leading high school sailing program in Mid-West. MYST sailors have consistently qualified for Great Lakes Championships, Atlantic Coast Championships, and this year sent teams to 4 National Championships.
“Sailing teaches kids resilience, teamwork, and self-reliance in a way few sports can match,” said Mike Boland, President of the Pewaukee Lake Sailing School Board of Directors. “This new facility is more than a building — it’s a home base for every child who wants to learn to sail, compete, and grow. We’re proud to open our doors to the entire community and show them what PLSS is all about.”
2026 Summer Programs Now Open for Registration
With the grand opening comes the launch of the 2026 summer sailing season. PLSS offers programs for every level:
• Kinderprams (Ages 5–6) — Friday morning introduction to sailing for kindergarteners
• Beginner & Intermediate Optimist Classes — Core learn-to-sail curriculum for youth
• X-Boat Classes — Advanced racing on Pewaukee Lake’s classic fleet
• Club 420 for Teens (Ages 12–18) — Double-handed racing and regatta preparation
• O’pen Bic Classes — Modern single-handed performance sailing

PLSS is committed to keeping sailing accessible: most class rates are under $13 per hour per sailor. Registration for the 2026 summer season is open now at www.plss.org.
