The 8th State family is getting a little bigger…
To celebrate the launch of the new studio, we want to share a little more about why 8th State started.
In 2021, founder Christina Sommer noticed a wellness gap in Lake Country: there was no true home for heated yoga studios.
As a lifelong lover of fitness, she spent years exploring different workouts and studio environments, searching for the one that truly resonated with her.
What she discovered changed everything. Moving her body in a heated studio quieted her busy, work-driven mind while giving her the best workout of her life.
She was hooked. And endlessly inspired to bring that same experience to Lake Country, with one addition.
Christina didn’t just want to create an exceptional class experience. She wanted to build a studio community that felt genuinely welcoming, where belonging was part of the workout.
That sense of connection was the missing piece she’d felt in every studio she’d ever trained at.
Nearly 6 years, 2 studios, and 1 café later; Christina and the 8th State team are thrilled to announce a 3rd location opening in 2027.
I (Erin) love hot yoga so much that in 2023, I became a certified yoga teacher through 8th State Hot Yoga + Fitness and in February 2026, started teaching two classes per week at the Oconomowoc studio. There is also a studio located in Mequon. PLUS, they will be opening another very soon!!
