WEHR Center Maple Sugar Days

March 8 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
$5 – $12
Wehr Maple Sugar Days
Maple syrup is so much more than a pancake topper. Milwaukee County Parks invites the public to explore the stories, science, and traditions behind this sweet seasonal favorite at the 46th Annual Maple Sugar Days at Wehr Nature Center. We’ve gone to other Maple Sugar events, and they are fun for the whole family. Try out the WEHR Center Maple Sugar Days this year! (And hike to the waterfall. We love it!)
The event takes place:
Saturday, March 7, 12–4 p.m.
Sunday, March 8, 12–4 p.m.
Visitors of all ages can enjoy an immersive experience that brings together history, culture, and hands-on learning, including:
  • Learning how Indigenous peoples of North America created the first maple sugar and continue this sacred tradition today
  • Meeting maple trees and discovering the science behind spring sap
  • Stepping back in time at an old-fashioned sugar camp to hear stories of early Wisconsin syrup making
  • Trying hands-on activities like drilling a log and hammering in a spile
  • Watching sap boil and learning how to make syrup at home
  • Tasting maple sugar and enjoying a warm pancake topped with Wisconsin maple syrup
  • Sampling a flight of syrups to explore the range of maple flavors (additional fee)
  • Discovering how climate action helps protect maple sugaring traditions for future generations
Maple-inspired concessions and treats will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the Friends of Wehr. Guests can also shop the Nature Store for DIY sugaring equipment, syrup, books, maple kettle corn, maple candy, and more.
“This event connects people to nature, history, and culture in a way that’s hands-on and memorable,” said Carly Hintz, Director of Wehr Nature Center. “Maple Sugar Days is a tradition for many families, and we’re excited to welcome both new and returning visitors to experience how maple syrup comes from forest to table.”
