Wittnebel’s Tavern Grand Opening plus General Admission
Celebrate the grand opening of Wittnebel’s Tavern! This historic tavern, first opened in the early 20th century, is the newest addition to the brewing experience at Old World Wisconsin. This special weekend will feature a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting each day along with live polka music by Mike Schneider and a special tap dance performance. Guests attending will receive a complimentary Wittnebel’s Tavern can cooler and an exclusive sticker with a purchase of a Kettle Brau brew.
Savor a cold beer at Wittnebel’s historic bar, a 13.5-foot centerpiece dating back to the early 1900s. Take in the meticulously recreated decor, featuring a vintage drink cooler that shows how bars kept their stock chilled, 1930s style checkerboard flooring reproduced to match the original, and retro signage, crates, and beer memorabilia from the era. Immerse yourself in the sounds of post-Prohibition jazz and big band music, while old-school radio spots and classic sports broadcasts bring the past to life.
Our bartenders, dressed in Depression-era attire, will serve up our signature beer alongside a curated selection of other beverages, all with a touch of vintage flair. Feeling adventurous? Pick up the old-fashioned tavern telephone to overhear a conversation from a bygone local caller. Then, step outside to keep the good times going in our new adjoining Bier Garten, where history meets relaxation.
Originally located 30 miles north of Old World Wisconsin in Old Ashippun, Wittnebel’s Tavern was a beloved gathering spot for the community, offering a place to relax, socialize and celebrate since its opening in 1906. For more than eight decades, two generations of the Wittnebel family kept the taps flowing until 1987, when the tavern closed its doors. Following a move to Old World Wisconsin in 2021, the building underwent an extensive restoration to return it to its appearance during the post-Prohibition period of the early 1930s.
