First Tuesday Hike
May 2, 2017 @ 10:30 am - 1:30 pm
FreeThe Ice Age Trail Alliance – Waukesha/Milwaukee County Chapter invites you to First Tuesday Hike on May 2. They will meet at 10:30 am at the Powder Hill Road parking lot in the Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. The parking lot is 0.4 miles south of Highway 60 on Powder Hill Road, just west of Slinger, WI. They will meet there and shuttle to the start of the hike on Glassgo Drive.
They will hike the Pike Lake Segment of the Ice Age Trail which follows a glacial ridge through heavily forested maple and beech woods. Passing Pike Lake, a spring-fed kettle, they will take the spur trail up Powder Hill and climb the tower which sits atop this glacial kame at an elevation of 1,350’ offering a 360 degree view of the area. Weather permitting, they will have lunch here. They will then rejoin the Ice Age Trail and continue on it to a Pike Lake loop trail which will takes them to the parking lot on Powder Hill Road. The total distance is about 5 miles with the option of hiking less by not doing the spur or loop trails.
Pack a lunch!
As with all hikes, dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable hiking boots. Walking sticks and water are recommended. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet and under the owner’s control at all times. Don’t forget your camera!
