Maple Syrup Family Day

Maple Syrup Family Day is an annual spring event at Richfield Historical Park that celebrates the tradition of harvesting and processing maple sap. This is an outdoor family and child focused event.

For 2026, the event is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Leashed dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas.

Core Maple Syrup Family Day Activities

  • Syrup Demonstrations: Visitors can see trees being tapped and watch the sap boiling process at the park’s sugar shack.
  • Maple Syrup Contest: The event hosts an annual contest where local producers enter their syrup to be judged on density, clarity, flavor, and color by a panel of celebrity judges.
  • Pioneer Homestead: Demonstrations include old-fashioned cooking, lard rendering, and weaving on an antique loom. Children can also interact with farm animals in the barn.
  • Historic Tours: All historical buildings, including the Messer-Mayer Grist Mill, are open for free tours.
  • Food & Treats
    • Pancake Breakfast: A signature pancake and sausage breakfast featuring “real” maple syrup is served from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Nature Park Pavilion.
    • Concessions: Other available items include hot dogs, chili, hot chocolate, and the society’s famous maple cotton candy.
    • Syrup Sales: Pure maple syrup processed at the park is available for purchase while supplies last.

Visitor Information
Admission: Entry to the event and parking are free; however, there is a fee for the pancake breakfast and other food items.
Location: Richfield Historical Park, 1896 State Road 164, Richfield, WI.
Purpose: Proceeds from food and syrup sales support educational programs and the continued maintenance of the park’s historic structures.
