Wee Walkers Hike

January 7, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am

This year, why not celebrate your love for the great outdoors with your kids by hiking the Ice Age Trail!? Join the Hartland Walking Club’s “Wee Walkers” for this month’s hike designed especially for tykes!

Join Hartland Walking Club’s “Wee Walkers” as they embark and continue on their 2023 series. This year, they aim to hike the ENTIRE Hartland Segment of the Ice Age Trail–out AND back!! Centennial Park is the northernmost point on the Hartland Segment. They will start there and head south each month in 2023 until they complete the full segment! Please dress and prepare accordingly. If weather conditions are unsafe they will cancel.

Walks are led by 5-year-old Simon, 3-year-old Ophelia, 1-year-old Rhea, and their mom, Christina, an Ice Age Trail volunteer (and kid at heart). All ages are welcome; kids must be accompanied by an adult. *Note: They love furry friends, but dogs are not allowed on a section of this trail, so please leave them at home this month.*

How to find the Wee Walkers: They will either be layering up by their car in the parking lot or playing in the playground waiting for their hiking buddies to arrive!

Here are Google Map directions to Hartbrook Park: https://goo.gl/maps/qgUoPtt9qynx7sGG6

They started at Centennial park in January and will head south each month in 2023 until they complete the full segment! Anyone who accomplishes this goal with us will earn a free “Hartland Segment” pin!

This month (February 2023), their out-and-back hike will total approximately 2 miles as they trek from Hartbrook Park to Nixon Park and back. This section of trail is stroller-friendly, but they would recommend a heavy-duty stroller in case there is residual snow, slush, and/or ice on the path. They hope to find some snow mountains to climb and, for the second month in a row, they will get a bonus of not one but TWO playground stops! Please dress for the weather and consider bringing water and snacks. If conditions are unsafe they will cancel.

For the rest of the year for the Wee Walkers:

January 7 – Centennial Park to Hartbrook Park
February 4 – Hartbrook Park to Nixon Park
March 4 – Nixon Park to Maple Wayside  RSVP on FACEBOOK
April 15 – Maple Wayside to Cottonwood Wayside
May 13 – Cottonwood Wayside to North Shore Drive
